Encrypted HDDs

Seagate announces encrypted hard drives - Security - MSNBC.com

The hard drives, to be available in laptops made by ASI Computer Technologies, will include a chip that makes it impossible for anyone to read data off the disk, or even boot up a PC, without some form of authentication.

I will simply ask this… What do they do when there is, for one reason or another, a failure in the authentication? This is question is along the lines of biometrics… How do they fix it when a retina scan or fingerprint has been compromised?

I promised myself, after reading this, that I would not scoff at the use of the term “impossible.” So, please, if you must chuckle about THIER use of the term please do so quietly and behind your hand. ;)
